The economics of Love
Coddling is an art form, too much and it spoils someone, too little and it sends the wrong signal. Saying “I love you” to someone can either lift a person up, be seen as weird, or, be taken the wrong way. How should we, as true believers and followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the essence and expression of true Love, wield love between one another as brothers and sisters in Christ, in word and deed? I meet so many professing Christians who shrivel up if I say I love them, and I know it stems from childhood, where the expressions of love were not expressed openly or verbally. No hugs from parents, no hearing the words “I love you!”, and I get it. We are creatures of habit, but, becoming this… “2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” means that our old habits taught to us by imperfect beings need to be replaced by perfect love from the perfect God that literally created us, and is saving us from ourselves, and giving us eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ. If, in fact, after coming into the knowledge and understanding of what Christ has done for us in Love, His Love does not overpower and replace the old habits of imperfect love, then I’m inclined to say that the Love of Christ has not fully settled in to the center of the heart, and transformed us! Having the epiphany of Christ leads to this understanding… “2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.”, which automatically leads to a level of love that fetches far beyond any other love that we can ever experience. Which should lead to an outpouring of love from the inflowing River of Love that shouldn’t be dammed up inside of us, but released into the world as the governor of the work that we are called to do in His Name. The currency of God is Love, and a person’s wealth isn’t measured by the size of their bank account, but by the amount of Love that’s flowing in and out of their heart, into a world that is otherwise bankrupt in sharing God’s Love. Let the Love of Christ consume you today, and share it with everyone you can! Father, fill my heart with Your currency of Love and make me a liberal in giving it away! In Christ’s name, Amen
